Welcome to the Official 2009 Boulder SESQUICENTENNIAL Celebration Website !

In 1909, Boulder turned 50 years old. In 1959, the city marked its 100th anniversary. Now we're celebrating the city’s 150th birthday. Some activities (like honoring old-timers) have remained the same, while others (such as the mock stage-coach hold-up) have fallen by the wayside.

The methods of publicizing these 50-year anniversaries has changed, too. During the Semi-Centennial, the only way Boulder residents could learn of the planned activities was by reading the newspapers. By the time of the Centennial celebration, the print media was supplemented with radio and television.

Now, in the electronic age, we have the internet and have added this website. What will it be in another 50 years?

Join in the Community Stroll on July 4th. Visit Chautauqua, stroll with a few of Boulder's most interesting spirits in Columbia Cemetery, enjoy the "Only in Boulder" exhibit and crafts at the Boulder History Museum, stop by the CU Heritage center, listen to music at the Bandshell, and revel with Ralphie for fireworks at Folsom Field! Maps will be available at Chautauqua, or you can download one here.

Think you could describe Boulder's 150 year history in 90 seconds? Click here.

The banners along the Pearl Street mall are now available for pre-sales. To get an order form, click here. Don't wait until your favorite banner is sold!
