UPCOMING SESQUICENTENNIAL EVENTS

In 2009 the city of Boulder will be 150 years old; its sesquicentennial anniversary.  Join in and help Celebrate Community Through History at a variety of events.

Organizations throughout Boulder are encouraged to hold events that help celebrate Boulder’s Sesquicentennial.  These will be announced on the official Sesquicentennial web site.

Several longstanding Boulder events will incorporate the Sesquicentennial theme.  These include the Lights of December Parade (as a kick-off in 2008); the Boulder Creek Fest and Bolder Boulder (Memorial Day weekend 2009); and the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration at Folsom Field (Wright Kingdom’s Ralphie’s Independence Day Blast – 2009).

The Sesquicentennial Committee is also planning several “signature events.”

The Hotel Boulderado will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009 and is hosting a reception for longstanding Boulder residents on February 10, 2009 (the official day the Boulder City Town Company first met, founding the government of the city of Boulder). A special recognition of this anniversary will be held at the Boulder City Council meeting that night.

The focus of the community celebration of the sesquicentennial will be on the 4th of July, 2009.  A community walk will link together some of Boulder’s most special historic properties leading participants to the fireworks at Folsom Field.  The Sesquicentennial Stroll will take participants from Chautauqua to the Columbia Cemetery to the Boulder History Museum to the Bandshell to the CU Heritage Center to the fireworks and community celebration at Folsom Field, enjoying a community event and appreciating our local history.

Stay tuned for news of many more events currently in the planning stages.
